Objectives of Sumana Trust

At Sumana Trust, we actively work to create a welcoming environment where persons with mental illness (PwMIs) feel accepted as integral members of an inclusive community.

Foster a Sense of Belonging: We create an environment where persons with mental illness (PwMI) are welcomed as valued members of an inclusive community. This helps them feel respected, understood, and supported.

Inclusive Living: We actively involve PwMIs and their caregivers in everyday community life. This encourages interaction, shared experiences, and stronger social bonds.

Mutual Support Among Families: We build camaraderie among parents and caregivers. This connection reassures them they are not alone and strengthens mutual trust.

Promote Community Awareness: We sensitise surrounding neighbourhoods to mental health challenges. As a result, stigma decreases and acceptance grows.

Replicable Pilot Model: We are developing SSIL as a proven model of inclusive living. Communities across India can adapt and replicate it.

Family-Like Care Structure: We offer close-knit, family-style care. This ensures long-term emotional and practical support for PwMIs.

Rehabilitation Services: We deliver psychosocial rehabilitation through trained professionals. A safe residential setting helps residents recover and grow.

Residential Support: We provide nutritious food, personal care, recreation, and essential living services. PwMIs’ life here is secure and fulfilling.

Health & Life Skills Monitoring: We assess each PwMI’s physical, mental, and life skills regularly. Interventions are tailored to support steady progress.

Individual Case Files: We keep detailed records for every PwMI under our care. This ensures transparency and continuity.

Trained Caregivers: We employ caregivers for group and one-on-one support. Each is matched to the specific needs of the residents they serve.

Collaborative Tie-ups: We partner with local and state health bodies and service providers. These collaborations strengthen the quality of our care.

Caregiver Training: We run regular training through NGOs and mental health experts. This keeps our caregivers skilled and compassionate.

Community Sensitization: We train staff, residents, and stakeholders to interact with PwMIs respectfully. This promotes a culture of inclusion.

Abuse Redressal: We provide clear reporting channels for physical or psychological abuse. All cases are addressed promptly.

Staff Motivation & Accountability: We encourage empathetic caregiving and hold staff accountable for their conduct.

Trustee Role for PwMI: After a parent’s demise, we can act as trustee of beneficiary trusts. Appointed representatives manage fiduciary and financial responsibilities.

Positive Orientation: We conduct orientation sessions for families and staff. These sessions build a warm and supportive environment.

Emergency Medical Support: We help families shift PwMIs to hospitals during emergencies or planned admissions. This ensures timely medical care.
