Saksham Sumana
A First-of-its-Kind Community for Families with PwMI (Persons with Mental Illness)
Saksham Sumana – An Inclusive Living Community For Caregivers And PwMIs
By pooling resources, families can more effectively access essential services such as assisted care, psychosocial rehabilitation, counseling, and medical assessments at affordable costs. This assistive living approach not only improves the quality of life for PwMIs (Persons with Mental Illness) but also alleviates caregiver fatigue. Consequently, families gain the freedom to pursue personal interests while trusting in Saksham Sumana’s promise of lifetime care within a compassionate and empathetic community.
Caring for a loved one with severe mental illness can often be isolating due to stigma, which impacts both the individual and their family. Therefore, Saksham Sumana Inclusive Living fosters a supportive community where families with shared experiences live together. Residents connect through common spaces, services, and daily activities, which fosters mutual assistance, reduces stigma, and enhances social connections.
Sumana Trust Community Care Model

SSIL Community – Cares, Ensures Lifetime Support For PwMIs
SSIL is an inclusive residential community located within M/s Shanders Enclave, Electronic City, Phase-2. It serves up to 40 homes/families with options to own or rent, while providing access to all common amenities of the enclave.
Sumana Trust plans to provide comprehensive on-campus support, including psychotherapy, skill development, recreation, and rehabilitation services. Moreover, living close to families with shared experiences promotes routine, purpose, and emotional support. Regular psychiatric supervision further aids in medication compliance and sustained well-being.
Importantly, PwMIs can continue residing in their homes even after caregivers are no longer present. Sumana Trust remains committed to ongoing services, enabled by families establishing private trusts before joining SSIL. Admission requires a thorough assessment of the PwMI and their family, with specific terms and conditions applied.

Why Supported Living?
One of the biggest worries for families of PwMIs is the question, “Who After Me?” Although parents provide unmatched care, expecting the same from others is unrealistic. Therefore, a family-run assisted living model like SSIL ensures PwMIs receive lifetime support in a home-like environment. Staying in a family-like setting is therapeutic, which helps prevent relapses and homelessness. Supported living guarantees dignity, stability, and continuous care—even when families are no longer there.
Lifetime Care at SSIL
Caring for a PwMI is a lifelong commitment involving treatment, rehabilitation, and daily support. While families strive to provide this care, the realities of nuclear families, geographically dispersed relatives, and busy lives often make long-term support uncertain. The question “Who will be there for them?” weighs heavily on every caregiver’s mind.
Sumana Trust addresses this concern with a family-run assisted living model that offers lifelong care, dignity, and continuous support—just as parents would want for their loved ones.
