One of the most difficult challenges families face is helping their loved ones with mental illness accept the need for regular medical follow-up and long-term medication. Often, once symptoms improve, PwMIs may stop seeing their psychiatrist or discontinue their medication—leading to relapse or worsening of their condition. By the time families recognize the signs, it can be challenging to persuade the person to resume treatment.
At Saksham Sumana Inclusive Living (SSIL), this concern is addressed proactively. A qualified psychiatrist visits the community every week to monitor the well-being of residents, engage with PwMIs, and guide families on continued treatment and medication.
This regular, on-site follow-up helps in:
-
Preventing relapses through early intervention
-
Reinforcing the importance of consistent treatment
-
Reducing the need for emergency hospital admissions
-
Supporting families by easing the burden of crisis management
With this system in place, families feel reassured and better supported, knowing their loved ones are being cared for in a timely, professional, and compassionate manner.
Assisted care is at the heart of living with dignity and independence for persons with mental illness (PwMI). At Saksham Sumana Inclusive Living (SSIL), our team supports daily living needs with compassion and consistency, ensuring that each resident feels secure, cared for, and connected.
